Playstation Move coming this September
June 22, 2010For those who don’t know, the Playstation Move is the new motion sensing controller made by Sony. The Move comes in two parts, a wand style controller with something similar to a coloured light bulb on the end and another navigational controller for the other hand. It boasts a high accuracy one to one live tracking system courtesy of the Playstation Eye (a camera peripheral which comes separately). Inevitably it has been compared to the Wii controls, even dubbed Wii HD by some, and has been met with mixed opinions so far.

Whilst its high accuracy and responsiveness have been praised, many games on the Playstation platform are still sceptical whether they would welcome this kind of technology. This is largely due to the massive catalogue of Wii games that are simply adding motion controls not necessarily because they are well implemented or suit the game but just because they can. Although this is not always the case, it is very commonplace especially in many of the third party family style games.

It is however still early days, and with many of the more serious games such as Socom integrating this system well, as well as many existing titles said to be patched to support the Move, the games library is looking rather different to the Wii. Prices are said to be £39.99 for the wand and £29.99 for the navigation controller. A total of around £70 is rather steep for a single controller. Sony have however offered an alternative, you don’t HAVE to buy the navigational controller, you can use an existing Playstation 3 one instead which is good news for people wanting more than one, although whether or not waving around a Dual Shock 3 controller in one hand over periods of time is safe or not is a completely different question. The Playstation Move is set is set to be released in the UK on the 17th of September and will be available on GamingZap.com alongside many other accessories.
